Ranged Combat
When participating in ranged combat, there are multiple steps that a combatant must take in order to Strike. These actions do not need to be completed consecutively.
1. Draw Ammunition
First, you must draw your ammunition using the Interact action. Everything needed to load the weapon is included in this action, from the projectile itself to propellants, or loading tools.
2. Load the Weapon
Second, the ranged weapon is loaded with the ammunition. Check the weapon’s Load property. The number shown is the amount of actions needed to finish loading 1 shot of ammunition. If the weapon has an Ammunition property with a 2 or higher, then that many shots are loaded and can be shot before needing to reload again.
A creature is Flat-Footed while taking the Load action. If you take damage while reloading, then there is a chance that the interruption will hinder your ability to reload. If an enemy attack roll exceeds your weapon skill, then refer to the following table for the resulting complication.
| Exceeds Weapon Skill By… | Complication |
|---|---|
| 1-4 | You are thrown off balance, the current Load time increases by 1 |
| 5-9 | You drop your ammunition and must restart the Load process |
| 10+ | You drop your ammunition and it becomes fouled. Restart the Load process and lose the ammount of ammunition that your weapon would hold after reloading. |
The process of reloading a weapon can be willingly interrupted without penalty. However, any remaining actions must still be spent to shoot with the weapon again. Damage taken while loading is paused does not affect the reloading process and the creature is no longer Flat-Footed until reloading resumes.
3. Shoot the Weapon
When you shoot a projectile, you take the Strike action, or another ranged action, such as those detailed in this section. If you use the Aim action, then you do not launch your projectile until you take a ranged action with an attack roll.
Ranged Actions
Ranged actions are tactical options specifically for ranged combat.
