shape water
He sits there silent, habitually concentrating on his creations performance as he looks around the small establishment, noting the eyes that were on him.
Hmmm... This town could be profitable...
As the pipa player hits one note off tune, the lady falls back into the wooden cup. Takumi awaits the rest of the party to determine the best course of action."We are here to help.
How long has that been here/What is it doing here?"
It is worth noting that despite it being rushed, his penmanship is impeccable. (edited)HELP. IT'S EATING US.This is real. This is here.
You can only see in the quiet, and you forget it.
Tsuneuji's Third Law
She sets the quill back down next to the ink. And waves the parchment to force it to dry faster. She glances at it, some of the ink smeared but it is still legible. Not nearly as nice as Sadao's work. Satisfied, she rolls the parchment sheet and the picture together and tries to figure out where to store it so she can remember. There is an aberration outside, be wary of anything out of the norm
On the parchment which he then shows to everyone, in order to communicate his thoughts. (edited)Can he make it quiet on rooftop? Eat animals too? When does it feed? (edited)We need to trap it somewhere, in a place you can make it silent. Can you think of such a place? What is the plan? I can get on the roof from here, but I can't bring anyone with me. (edited)Perhaps. For a time, the magister tells Sadao. I do not know what it eats. YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT HAS EATEN. His scrawl is messy and frantic. (edited)It is too big to trap. It is everywhere.Common wisdom holds that false hydras come from the ground. They spontaneously originate as undifferentiated masses of flesh. Potatoes that sprout from no seed. Supposedly, they germinate in response to lies, and that each falsehood causes a false hydra to swell larger.
The false hydra enters a town through a humble enough method. Fattened on worms, it has been growing upwards these last few days (weeks? years?), but has only now broken through the soil. It emerges in a basement, from behind the jars of fruit preserve. Or pushes its face up through a broken cobblestone. And then it begins to sing.
While it sings, it is ignored. It just creates gaps in your attention and then slips through them. It is subtler than invisibility, and more reliable.
But of course, none of this is noticed. While it sings, the hydra exists in our blind spot.
The lair of a false hydra always lies underneath the city it chooses to feed on. The hydra burrows underground sprouting its head like a plant typically under buildings or in their lower floors. It frequently moves creating large cavernous areas prone to collapse. It only surfaces if the city can no longer feed it, and only long enough to move to its next target. (edited)The element of surprise may be our greatest ally here. It has considerable size, but it's used to being ignored. Another problem—it's probably intending to leave soon, and tracking it will be tricky once it does. We may be able to figure something out. Any ideas? If we could lure the creature into an area of town that we stashed black powder nearby, the explosion could possibly kill the creature.
She considered, * It would be costly in the city, but worth it if it destroyed the monster.* She looked to the magister and wrote.
Ask the magister if they have a store of the powder, fireworks even.
She lifts the page up and shows it to Sadao. (edited)Where do you store your black powder? All of it. Fireworks, anything explosive, we'll need it. (edited)Catacombs? Sewers? (edited)*Ryuzuko;* head to the niter mines to the south-west of the town, look for powder to use in making an explosive. There is a massvive aberration called a *false hydra* that lives under the town, it has been eating them for a while. Use the powder to help kill the monster, to save the town from it.
He let everyone read it, before folding it up and slotting it into one of the grooves in his gauntlet. (edited)Every black powder firework that arrives in Tokyo, comes from Dandong.
In fact that's all I've ever heard of this place, until... This...
South west, yeah, south west. Mines.
What's a hydra? (edited)This creature came from underground, it must still reside there. Are there ways to get down there? Sewers or otherwise? This building has an archive in the cellar. Blackpowder sometimes comes through the docks. Most is taken directly north from the mine.Dandong is under siege from a false hydra. THAT is what the graffiti means. It has eaten most of the people already. You cannot remember it while it sings, but it is true. Koide has the pamphlet for more info. Get explosives, rig the underground to blow. It is an aberration, we must destroy it. Only the magister knows the truth.
He then tries to hand the quill around to others so they can write their own messages, but realizes there is scarcely time. "Shit," he mouths silently, wishing there had been more quills to go around. (edited)Tsuneuji's Third Law. She was just gonna suggest getting their map and heading on. They weren't getting paid for this after all. But that meant more than it all. This was one of those things that they must do then.
She looked to the group. "So the first step is to get to the mines." She'd work on the other nine steps as they went along. (edited)PRIVATE.Follow blood, explode monster
Looking up, he sees Takumi has done the same, albeit with wood. He nods to him.
"Yeah, and I get the feeling we'd better hurry. That blood is still fresh. You guys already brought the black powder down there, right?" Now and then, he glances at the ink on his arm, as if to reaffirm its message.Fill the chamber at the end of the blood trail with explosives, then detonate. All is well.
He then looks away from the reflection, closes his eyes, and counts down from ten, mouthing the numbers. He listens deep to the environment around him, letting the hydra's song in, and letting his memories of it fade into the corner of his mind. By the time he reopens his eyes, he has assumed a casual, even relaxed stance, and speaks in a normal voice.
"Well, whatever was supposed to be here, isn't. Let's finish what we've got to do and get out of here."

As he read the character, "Beast." aloud, the rest of the parable came to mind. The trickster kitsune that evaded—and nimbly struck down—a cruel warlord. He points a finger at the nearby Ryu, as a fox-like apparition appears floating beside him, simultaneously mimicking and guiding his movements as he engages the hydra.'It's a horse, it probably just means woman. It has already said I'm not its master.' She pauses wondering about the context. 'Did the horse say something new?' (edited)Hedge? You're talking about a fey portal aren't you? The Green Lands or the Shadow Lands?I have a good hand, Sadao. Tak is correct. Can you speak with the horse for me again, Viraj-san? We cannot follow to its master if it went through the hedge, she thinks for a moment realizing the animal may prefer a handler to fending for itself, would it prefer to be free or to accompany us? It may choose either. If the horse decides to come with us, does it prefer a different name? Tanpo brings sadness to our hearts for the one we lost, and it would remind him of his former master.
With quill to paper, she stores the utensils, and hands the paper over to Viraj. (edited)死 (death)
話 (speech)
As he completes the rite, a ball of light, not unlike the lantern spirits he'd summoned before, manifests in front of him, and flies into the remains. Sadao's eyes shimmer with power as he speaks to the corpse, which begins to stir.
"What does this seven-fingered token signify?"It may not be curses, but disease was a possibility. Burning would solve either though. (edited)復讐者
Reading the word aloud, "Avenger!" the story of a battle-worn samurai who found solace in protecting others comes to mind. He mutters the rest of the tale, pointing to Lyrel as he closed the distance on the monster with whirling blade. A ghostly visage of the samurai appears next to the bladesinger. The spirit has a hand on his katana, and fixes the malformed one with a steely gaze, waiting for it to make a move. (edited)逃れる
"Escape"
One door leads to destiny and the other to certain death. One always lies and the other always tells the truth. You have one question.
When Tatsu addresses the first door, it replies in the same language that he addressed it in.
"Greetings, Tatsu-san..."
The voice is deep and rich and as it speaks a carving of a weathered, bearded face forms around the most. (edited)
